We are going to be PARENTS!

Well, well, well … SURPRISE! As of right now, only a few people know. But we are having a baby! And we are so, so, so excited!!

Because this is an EXCITING time I decided I want to attempt blogging again. We will see how I do this time around. (My previous attempts of blogging/journaling over the years have been far from successful, ha!) But this is a huge event in our life and I will try to stay on top of it.

And I suppose a good place to start is with the story of how I let Sam in on the big news. So here is what happened!

Because we had been trying and we had a feeling I might be pregnant, the very first day I could, I took a pregnancy test.  We had the cheap 88 cent tests from Wal-Mart and when I took the first one I couldn't tell so I took the 2nd one we had and I still couldn't really tell. I didn't know if the answer was jut no or if I was imagining that really, REALLY, really faint pink line I wanted to see so badly. So I blamed it on the tests and went out that night to buy something a little more reliable.

The next morning as soon as I woke up and Sam was out of the house and at school, I took the test … and there very clearly, was that blessed line I had been hoping for! I was so excited, that I decided to take the 2nd test in the box because I figured it would expire before I would ever need it again and sure enough those double pink lines appeared for a second time!

That was enough confirmation for me, now I needed to figure out how to tell Sam. But this was the tricky part because he already had an idea that I'd be taking a test any day and I also knew he had an inkling that I might be pregnant … but this was our first baby and I wanted to be able to surprise him somehow.

I was a bit stumped so I enlisted the help of our neighbors and friends, Ben and Lindsay since they knew we were trying anyways. After searching on Pinterest and Google we decided the best way to throw him of the trail would be to act totally normal when he got home and then have him search for the news without knowing he was searching.

When Sam got home from school we made lunch together and talked about his classes and homework just like it was any other day. He was totally falling for it hook line and sinker! Eventually I acted like I couldn't find my phone … this would not have been the first time this has ever happened, so he still had no idea what was coming. So we start looking all over the house and he asks me when the last time I had it was, I tell him I remember having it with me when I was cleaning up and straightening the house, so maybe it fell under or behind the couch while I was fixing the cover on it.

(Now at this point, I was in the other room and had grabbed the camera and began recording.) When I came out into the living room he was on his stomach looking under the couch for my phone, which of course I had planted there with the pregnancy test laying on top. When he pulls out my phone his reaction is priceless. He was a little confused at first, as he didn't know two pink lines meant we were pregnant. But I am glad we caught it all on camera. Needless to say he was excited.
