And it's a … GIRL!

Well it's official … we are excited to be having a little girl! And a stubborn, shy little one at that! None of our ultrasound images came out very good but here's what we were able to get.

Top Right: She eventually moved just enough, that for a split second, we were able to get a picture of her sweet little bum to confirm, that we are indeed having a little girl! You can see her little thighs coming down from her bum on the right side of the frame.
Top Left: For the majority of the appointment she had her little legs squeezed together and her ankles crossed. In this image you can see her tiny abdomen coming down from the right side of the frame and her right leg crossed over her left one.
Bottom Right:
Not only was she crossing her legs the whole time but she also had her itty-bitty little hands crossed over her face. In this image you can see her arms, crossed at the wrists with her hands up over her head on the left side of the frame. Somewhere in there you can supposedly see her nose and lip … but I'm just not seeing it.
Bottom Left: Here is a precious picture of her left foot. We didn't get a good image of her right foot as it was right up against the uterus wall the whole time.

All in all, everything looks good and she is healthy, coming in at the 56th percentile. The ultrasound technician we had was wonderful and so patient, as we tried all kinds of things to get our little lady to move. I have to admit I was a little sad we never got a good shot of her face or her profile, but alas January will be here all so soon, and we will get to meet our baby girl in person!

We cannot wait to meet our precious little Evangeline and hold her in our arms!!

Will it be a Boy or a Girl??

We find out THIS WEEK what the gender will be, and we cannot wait!

The suspense has been killing us. All three of our siblings, who are pregnant and due the same week as us, have found out if they are having boys or girls   and it has only made it worse. Especially after finding out that my brother and his wife, James & Cayla are having a little girl, that my sister and her husband, Alex and Peter are having a little girl, and Sam’s brother and his wife, Seth and Angie, are having a little girl!!!

Will we also be joining the little girl's club or having the only boy??

In light of this, I came across a whole bunch of midwives tales and thought it would be fun to go through them and see what THEY say this baby will be!

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #7: Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #8: Moodiness
If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #9: Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #10: Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is.
Prediction outcome: BOY (according to Sam … but let’s be honest he’s a little bias)
Old Wives Tale #11: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.
Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE
Old Wives Tale #12: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #13: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #14: Dad’s Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #15: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #16: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #17: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #18: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL
Old Wives Tale #19: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy.
Prediction outcome: BOY
Old Wives Tale #20: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. (We have names picked out for a girl or boy so I suppose this doesn't apply)
Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE
Old Wives Tale #21: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

TOTAL GIRL: 8
TOTAL BOY: 11
TOTAL INCONCLUSIVE: 2

So there you have it! Guess the midwives say it’s a BOY  but if you ask me it’s pretty close, so we will just have to wait and see!

But in the mean time we want to know what you think! Make sure to cast your vote in the poll on the top left hand side of our blog! We can’t wait to let you all know at the end of the week!

18 going on 19

How far along: 18 weeks (almost 19)
Due date: January 7th, 2015
Maternity clothes: All the time. I've even started wearing a MuuMuu around the house because lets be honest  pants and I  we're not friends.
Sleep: I slept on an air mattress this whole weekend and now have a new found appreciation for my queen size bed. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my husband but I do not love sleeping so close that we are laying partially on top of one another. If you've ever slept on an air mattress you know that is inevitable that through the course of the night it will deflate a little bit. And as the bed deflates the center goes down and gravity pulls you into it. So by the time we woke up in the morning lets just say it wasn't super comfy anymore. And then it just got worse, after our last night of sleeping on the air mattress I woke up to find myself laying diagonally across the bed and poor Sam curled up in this little ball half on and half hanging off the air mattress to try and accommodate me. Ha. What a good husband I have! I felt so, so, so bad. I asked him if it was like that the whole night and he told me it wasn't but I can tell when he's lying and he definitely was trying to make me feel better about it.
Miss anything: Being able to brush my teeth without gagging and having hiccups that are excruciatingly painful.
Movement: Every now and then. And I love every moment of it!
Food cravings: Salty things, particularly chips. Ohhh … and humus. I love me some roasted red pepper humus.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Sometimes the smell of meat cooking can get to me, but otherwise I'm pretty good!
Have you started to show yet: Yes siree-bob!
Gender: Still a secret to us … but I am dying to find out. I've had dreams that it was a boy and I've had dreams it was girl … so that wives tale isn't working.
Pregnancy signs: Daily heartburn, more frequent headaches and way more frequent trips to the bathroom.
Belly button in or outInny
Wedding ring on or off: On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy
Best moment of this week: This isn't baby related but … best moment was that we got to take a road trip down to Utah and see a lot of old friends. Our mission President and his wife gave their homecoming talks at church this last Sunday and we got to go! I was amazed how many missionaries were able to make it. So fun to see everyone.
What are you looking forward to: The fact that we are getting closer and closer to our 21 week ultrasound, August 27th is the big debut! But seriously it's starting to feel a little more like torture every day. I want these next 2 and a half weeks to go by lightening quick. I just want to see this baby sooo bad. And I don't think it is helping that I dream about our little one once or twice a week now. Every time the baby looks different and its a different gender, its driving me crazy! But in a weird way I think the dreams are making me feel more connected to our baby. It's weird to describe but it surprises me how much I love this baby more and more every day!!
